Bloomington, Indiana – The City of Bloomington is preparing to host the yearly La Fiesta del Otoño in what appears to be a Hispanic Heritage Month main celebration. This festive gathering is set for Saturday, September 21, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Switchyard Park Pavilion, located at 1601 S Rogers Street. The event, free for those interested to attend it and built with families in mind, promises an exciting day full of cultural events, educational possibilities, and community interaction.
Under the theme “Your Contributions Matter: Shaping the Future Together” (“Tus Contribuciones Importan: Formando the Future Together”), La Fiesta del Otoño seeks to underline the significant impact of Hispanic and Latino populations in forming the local and larger social fabric. .
“Our city is stronger when more people are involved in policy development and more perspectives are present and heard at the decision-making table. That starts with ensuring Bloomington is a welcoming community where every resident and visitor feels safe and valued,” said Shatoyia Moss, director of Community and Family Resources.
The rich tapestry of Spanish-speaking cultures will be reflected in the many events attendees may expect. The event will feature traditional performances including lively songs by Mariachi Internacional de Bloomington and the entrancing Flamenco dances by Sofía Crespo. Live music from local musicians like NOMáS and the Vick Luna Quartet can also be enjoyed by visitors, therefore providing a lively auditory component to the celebrations.
Furthermore set up by different community partners, the pavilion will feature many booths providing educational insights and information. These booths will highlight the many ways that Hispanic and Latino people benefit the society and beyond. Local food trucks will provide a variety of Latin American cuisine that will thrill foodies.
Younger guests could expect a creative release with arts and crafts projects. With several awards and motivating involvement from individuals of all ages, a dancing competition promises even more excitement.
The Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs of the City of Bloomington and the Community and Family Resources Department Latino Programs help to fund La Fiesta del Otoño. Those interested to learn more about the event or willing to volunteer are encouraged to contact Ximena Martinez Ruiz, City of Bloomington Latino Outreach Coordinator, at 812-349-3430 or visit the official webpage and Facebook page.
