Indianapolis, Indiana – The sizzle is back at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as Oscar Mayer announced the return of the Wienie 500 for a second year, promising an even bigger, bolder, and more interactive experience. Set to take place on Friday, May 22, ahead of the 110th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, the event brings a playful and delicious twist to motorsports, celebrating America’s favorite summer snack: the hot dog. Last year, the Wienie 500 drew 85,000 fans to the stands and millions more online, and this year the excitement promises to reach an even wider audience with a live nationwide broadcast.

The Wienie 500 is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of summer and all things Oscar Mayer. With 72 million hot dogs consumed every Memorial Day Weekend, the event serves as the unofficial kickoff to the season, reminding fans that an Oscar Mayer Wiener is perfect anytime, anywhere—even on the racetrack. The spectacle also features the full fleet of Wienermobiles, each competing for the prestigious title of Top Dog. Last year, fans cheered as Slaw Dog, representing the Southeast, crossed the finish line first, and this year the reigning champion is back to defend its title.

This year’s race will feature some familiar favorites, including Slaw Dog (Southeast), Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog (East), Chili Dog (South), and Seattle Dog (Northwest). However, the Sonoran Dog has officially been relegated after failing to “cut the mustard” in last year’s race, leaving a coveted spot open for a new regional contender. In a first-ever fan engagement initiative, race enthusiasts can now visit @Wienermobile on Instagram to vote in the ‘Pick Your Dog’ Wienie 500 bracket. Fans can choose from seven new regional hot dogs or give the Sonoran Dog another chance to qualify, adding an interactive element that ensures every fan has a stake in the race.

“The response to the first Wienie 500 was overwhelming, and we heard the fans loud and clear that they were hungry for more,” said Kelsey Rice, brand communications director at Oscar Mayer. “This year, we’re supercharging the experience, delivering an even bigger, bolder and more unforgettable event that puts the fans at the forefront. With amplified engagement, intensified rivalries and more surprises in store, we’re giving the people what they want – an unparalleled live experience that will leave them craving more.”

Many of the beloved traditions from the inaugural Wienie 500 are returning, giving fans the sense of continuity while building new excitement. Custom Wienermobile decals will once again be on display, and participants will don Hotdogger racing suits as they zip around the track. The iconic “Wiener Song” anthem will set the tone for the race, while the podium ceremony at the “wieners circle” will feature mustard sprays and the coveted Borg-Wiener trophy. These whimsical touches create an experience that is uniquely Oscar Mayer, blending spectacle, fun, and fan engagement in a way that few other motorsports events can replicate.

The Wienie 500 has proven that a lighthearted approach can generate serious attention. Selling nearly half a million more wieners last year, the event captivated fans both in-person and online. The combination of nostalgia, regional pride, and interactive competition gives the Wienermobiles a personality of their own, turning the race into a story that fans can follow and rally around. The return of Slaw Dog to defend its title ensures rivalries are renewed, and the open spot for a new regional dog introduces an element of suspense that will keep fans engaged right up to race day.

With amplified fan participation, nationwide coverage, and the return of signature traditions, the second annual Wienie 500 promises to be a sizzling start to the summer, bringing joy, excitement, and, of course, plenty of hot dogs to the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Whether you’re a die-hard motorsports fan, a hot dog enthusiast, or simply someone looking for a unique way to kick off Memorial Day weekend, the Wienie 500 delivers a fast-paced, fun-filled spectacle with a side of nostalgia and community spirit. As Oscar Mayer gears up for this year’s race, one thing is certain: the Wienermobiles are ready to rev, the fans are ready to cheer, and the summer of 2026 is set to start with a sizzle.
