Monroe County, Indiana – Starting with the 2025–26 school year, families across Indiana will have a new option for high-quality, flexible education through MCCSC Online, a virtual K–12 learning program recently launched by the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC). This new initiative blends the strengths of remote instruction with the opportunities found in traditional education, creating a comprehensive path for students with unique scheduling, health, or travel needs.
MCCSC Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston emphasized the school system’s commitment to accessibility and academic excellence in this new format. “We recognized that families need flexible educational options for various reasons – from health or medical considerations to travel requirements,” she said. “MCCSC Online provides that flexibility without sacrificing the quality education and community connections that define MCCSC.”
At its core, MCCSC Online expands upon existing programs at The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship, where students enrolled in the online option will officially be registered. The Academy will serve as the virtual students’ home base, ensuring a consistent connection to the broader MCCSC community. Importantly, this program is not limited to Monroe County residents—any student in Indiana from kindergarten through 12th grade is welcome to apply. There is no tuition or cost for enrollment.
A Robust Academic Experience for All Learners
MCCSC Online offers an impressive range of more than 300 courses, including Advanced Placement (AP) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes. These courses are delivered through a partnership with Edmentum EdOptions Academy, an accredited virtual school approved by the College Board and the NCAA Eligibility Center. All classes are taught by Indiana-certified teachers, and instruction is delivered through a combination of self-paced (asynchronous) modules and live (synchronous) sessions.
Students who require individualized learning plans will find full support built into the program. MCCSC ensures accommodations for EPs (Educational Plans), ILPs (Individualized Learning Plans), and 504s. Additionally, students benefit from daily on-demand tutoring and guidance from Success Coaches, who track progress and attendance to help keep learners on track.
In keeping with MCCSC’s commitment to student wellness, mental health support is provided in partnership with Centerstone, and services for English language learners and students receiving special education are available through MCCSC staff.
Bridging Virtual Learning with Real-World Experiences
Though MCCSC Online is a virtual program, it offers far more than screen-based instruction. At the high school level, students will have access to in-person opportunities like band, chorus, and technical education courses at Hoosier Hills Career Center. Participation in extracurricular activities, including sports and clubs at MCCSC schools, is also open to online students, reinforcing the program’s effort to maintain strong community ties.
To support student engagement and academic growth, MCCSC Online is built on six research-based instructional methods: mastery learning, active engagement, deliberate practice, metacognitive strategies, scaffolding, and explicit instruction. These approaches are proven to boost student understanding and retention across grade levels and content areas.

Graduates of the program will receive a high school diploma from The Academy of Science and Entrepreneurship, just like their peers attending in-person. This ensures that MCCSC Online students are recognized with the same academic credentials as traditional public school students.
Accessible, Inclusive, and Ready for Enrollment
For families interested in enrolling, MCCSC has created a streamlined path to registration. The program officially launches on August 6, 2025, and those interested can sign up at mccsc.edu/online to be notified when the enrollment application becomes available.
The launch of MCCSC Online marks a new chapter for the Monroe County school system—one that embraces innovation, equity, and educational flexibility. With its wide-ranging curriculum, inclusive support services, and commitment to keeping students connected to their local school community, the program reflects a growing understanding of what modern learners need to thrive.
As Superintendent Winston explained, MCCSC Online is not just a response to changing times but a proactive step forward. “MCCSC Online provides that flexibility without sacrificing the quality education and community connections that define MCCSC.”
In an educational landscape increasingly shaped by digital tools and diverse student needs, MCCSC is leading the way in building a public school option that works for everyone—wherever they may be.
