Bloomington, Indiana – In a heartfelt tribute to the courageous individuals who protect and serve their communities daily, the 2025 Valor Awards will return for its second year this May. Organized by the Exchange Club of Northside Bloomington and the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, this year’s ceremony will once again highlight the extraordinary dedication of first responders across Monroe County.
The event will take place on Tuesday, May 6th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Monroe Convention Center, with Old National Bank and Weddle Bros. Construction Companies stepping up as proud sponsors. With a goal of honoring valor in action, the awards shine a light on those who go above and beyond in moments that call for bravery, compassion, and resilience.
Nominations were gathered from across the county, focusing on four critical sectors: law enforcement, fire services, correctional officers, and emergency medical personnel. An impartial selection committee carefully reviewed each nominee’s story to determine this year’s honorees. During the ceremony, one recipient from each category will be officially recognized for their outstanding service.
“This event is one of the most meaningful ways we can say thank you to the people who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” said representatives from the Exchange Club and Chamber. “Each nominee represents the best of what public service stands for.”
The law enforcement category includes several standout figures:
• Cpl. Josh Fuller of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office
• Detective Jon Muscato and Melissa Stone, a social worker, both from the Bloomington Police Department
• Officer Aaron Thomas of the Indiana University Police Department
• Officer Matt Williams of DNR Bloomington
From the fire services, the nominees are:
• Capt. Ryan Fipps from the Monroe Fire Protection District
• Capt. Jayden Elkins with the City of Bloomington Fire Department
•
In the correctional field, Officer Sam Crowe of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was nominated for his dedication and professionalism behind the scenes.

Each nominee has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving others, often in high-stakes, emotionally demanding situations. “These individuals don’t do what they do for recognition. But that’s exactly why they deserve it,” said event organizers.
The Valor Awards aim to bring the community together not only to applaud acts of courage but also to deepen appreciation for those who serve without hesitation. Whether responding to emergencies, working with vulnerable populations, or ensuring public safety, this year’s nominees embody what it means to be a hero in everyday life.
As the date draws near, anticipation builds around who will be named the 2025 Valor Award recipients. But no matter who takes home the title, every nominee has already earned a place in the hearts of the community.
