Indianapolis, Indiana – Sullivan’s Legendary ‘Spin and Win’ Honored on 2025 Indy 500 Badges
The 40th anniversary of Danny Sullivan’s unforgettable “Spin and Win” moment at the 1985 Indianapolis 500 will be celebrated in a unique way this year. The official Bronze and Silver badges for the 2025 Indianapolis 500 will showcase the iconic moment, making them a must-have keepsake for fans of the legendary race.
Sullivan’s dramatic victory remains one of the most incredible moments in Indy 500 history. While attempting to pass Mario Andretti for the lead on Lap 120, Sullivan’s No. 5 Miller American March/Cosworth spun 360 degrees in the south chute between Turns 1 and 2. Miraculously, he avoided hitting the walls, regained control, and went on to overtake Andretti once more on Lap 140. From that point forward, he maintained his lead and crossed the finish line as the 1985 Indianapolis 500 champion.

To honor this historic feat, the 2025 Bronze and Silver badges will feature an image of Sullivan’s car in a sideways skid, with smoke billowing from the tires—a moment frozen in time that defined resilience and skill behind the wheel.
The Indy 500 Bronze Badge provides a unique experience for motorsports enthusiasts, offering gate admission and garage access on practice days. These include public gate hours for the Sonsio Grand Prix on May 9, as well as the Indianapolis 500 practice sessions held from May 13-19 and May 23-24. However, only individuals aged 18 and older are eligible to purchase and use a Bronze Badge.
In addition to these benefits, Bronze Badge holders will have the rare opportunity to participate in a pre-race grid walk before the Sonsio Grand Prix on Saturday, May 10. To take part in this exclusive event, badge holders must also have a Race Day ticket for entry into the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) on that day.
The 2025 Indianapolis 500 is set to be an unforgettable event, and with Sullivan’s remarkable “Spin and Win” moment immortalized on this year’s badges, racing fans have an even greater reason to celebrate the rich history of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
