Applications now open for Allen County Superior Court judge position as Judge Andrea Trevino prepares to retire in September

Allen County, Indiana – The Allen County Judicial Nominating Commission has officially opened the application process to fill a soon-to-be-vacant judicial seat in the Superior Court’s Family Relations Division. The position will become open on September 23, 2025, when Judge Andrea Trevino steps down after years of service.

Justice Christopher Goff, who chairs the Judicial Nominating Commission, announced that applications are now available and must be submitted electronically through the Indiana Courts Portal. The deadline for submission is Monday, June 30, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern.

This process marks an important step in ensuring continuity and stability in the Allen County court system, especially within the Family Relations Division, which handles sensitive cases involving custody, divorce, and other domestic matters.

To qualify for the judicial position, candidates must meet several requirements laid out by state law. Applicants must be residents of Allen County at the time of application and remain so throughout their term in office. They must also be attorneys who have been admitted to practice law in Indiana for at least five years. Individuals with a prior felony conviction or disciplinary action by the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission or a similar body in another state are not eligible to apply.

The selection process will include public interviews, scheduled to take place in July. The Commission will announce the full schedule of interviews online, allowing the public to stay informed and engaged in the process. Following the interviews, the Commission will meet in an executive session to evaluate the applicants. Once the private deliberations are complete, the Commission will publicly vote to choose three nominees.

These nominees will then be submitted to Governor Mike Braun, who will make the final decision and appoint the next Allen Superior Court judge. According to Indiana Code, the Commission must recommend “the three most qualified candidates” to the governor when a judicial vacancy arises.

Judge Trevino’s upcoming retirement represents a significant moment of transition for Allen County’s judiciary. The process now underway aims to identify a successor who will continue to uphold the values of fairness, professionalism, and public service.

Qualified attorneys are encouraged to apply and take part in shaping the future of the Allen Superior Court.
