United Way of South Central Indiana awards 2026 impact grants totaling 250000 to ten local nonprofits supporting families in need

Bloomington, Indiana – United Way of South Central Indiana (UWSCI) is investing in the future of local families with the announcement of its 2026 Impact Grants. A total of $250,000 will be distributed among ten nonprofit organizations serving Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Orange, and Owen counties, with each organization receiving a $25,000 grant. These funds are specifically aimed at supporting programs that strengthen long-term stability and opportunity for ALICE households—families and individuals who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed.

ALICE households are those earning above the federal poverty level but still facing financial insecurity that makes it difficult to cover essentials like housing, food, childcare, and healthcare. Even a single unexpected expense, such as a car repair or medical bill, can push these families into crisis. By providing funding to organizations addressing these challenges, UWSCI is helping ensure that these families have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

“This group of nonprofits are doing incredible work to create pathways to stability for families across South Central Indiana,” said Randy Rogers, President & CEO of United Way of South Central Indiana. “These investments strengthen programs that help families access food, housing, healthcare, education, and the supports that make long-term progress possible. We’re proud to stand alongside these agencies as they open doors for more of our neighbors.”

The 2026 Impact Grants are intended to help nonprofits expand the reach and effectiveness of their programs. By investing in local initiatives, UWSCI aims to address the unique challenges ALICE families face, from the struggle to secure reliable childcare to limited access to affordable healthcare. The grants also focus on economic mobility, giving families the tools and support to improve their financial standing over time.

In addition to providing immediate support, the grants encourage long-term solutions that can create lasting change in the community. By partnering with organizations that understand the needs of ALICE families firsthand, UWSCI ensures that funding goes toward initiatives that have measurable impact. Programs funded through these grants often provide a combination of direct services, education, and resources that equip families to handle unexpected expenses, pursue educational opportunities, and maintain steady employment.

This year’s selection of grant recipients reflects a wide range of services and approaches, all united by the goal of promoting financial stability and resilience. From helping families secure safe housing to providing access to nutritious food and healthcare, the funded programs represent a holistic approach to addressing the challenges that ALICE households face daily.

Through these grants, UWSCI reaffirms its commitment to improving the lives of South Central Indiana residents. By focusing on both immediate needs and long-term growth, the organization is helping to create a stronger, more resilient community. Families who participate in these programs are better equipped to navigate financial hardships, access essential services, and build pathways toward a more secure future.

The 2026 Impact Grants not only provide crucial funding but also signal a partnership between United Way and local nonprofits. Together, they are working to ensure that ALICE families in South Central Indiana have the resources and opportunities needed to achieve stability, security, and long-term success.
