Indianapolis, Indiana – The countdown to the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge is on, and this year’s event promises to be one for the history books. With the iconic race set for Sunday, May 25, organizers at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) are preparing for what could be the largest crowd since the centennial celebration in 2016.
As ticket sales surge and on-site parking sells out weeks earlier than last year, officials are urging racegoers to map out their transportation plans well in advance. Fans attending what is famously dubbed “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” are being reminded that early arrival and flexible travel choices are key to enjoying Race Day without unnecessary delays or stress.
While the IMS parking lots are already full, there’s no shortage of ways to make it to the track on time.
A Longstanding Local Tradition: Neighborhood Parking
For many seasoned attendees, parking in the residential and business areas around the Speedway is more than just a convenience — it’s a tradition. Local homeowners and entrepreneurs in Speedway and nearby neighborhoods open up their yards, driveways, and lots to visitors, offering affordable and accessible spots for those looking to park close to the action.
This sense of community is a hallmark of the Indy 500 experience and plays a critical role in managing the massive crowd that flocks to the track each year. The cooperation between fans and locals not only makes Race Day smoother but highlights the welcoming spirit Indiana is known for.
Pedal Power: A Healthy Commute with Bike to the 500
For those who prefer two wheels over four, the Bike to the 500 initiative is back for its 10th year. Presented by CIBA-Bike Indianapolis, this group ride offers fans a fun, healthy, and sustainable way to travel to the track. Cyclists will gather at the AMP at 16 Tech before embarking on an escorted five-mile ride to IMS.
Participants can choose from two morning departure times — 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. — depending on their preference and schedule. Upon arrival, riders will be directed to designated bike parking near Gate 1. It’s a relaxed and scenic way to get to the race while avoiding traffic jams and parking headaches.
Rideshare Services Offer Convenient Drop-Off and Pick-Up Points
For those not parking on-site or in the neighborhoods, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft remain a reliable option. These services allow guests to avoid the hassle of finding parking altogether. On Race Day, rideshare drop-offs and pickups will take place at the corner of 10th and Polco Streets, offering a short and direct walk to the venue.
Whether fans are traveling solo or with friends, using a rideshare can help cut down on congestion and provide a smoother trip to and from the Speedway.
Shuttle Services from the Airport and Downtown
Another easy and affordable option for fans is the Race Day shuttle service offered by IMS. The round-trip service includes school bus transportation from two key locations: Indianapolis International Airport and downtown Indianapolis. Riders will be dropped off at the Main Gate parking lot between Turns 1 and 2 of the famed oval, right across from Gate 2 on 16th Street.

This shuttle service is designed to reduce traffic near the Speedway and streamline the entry process for fans coming from outside the city. Shuttle tickets are still available and can be purchased online.
As anticipation builds for one of motorsport’s most celebrated events, fans are reminded to think ahead, choose a travel method that fits their needs, and get ready for an unforgettable day at the track. With a bit of planning and a lot of excitement, this year’s Indianapolis 500 is shaping up to be a Race Day to remember.
