Prominent criminal defense attorney James H. Voyles will host an author talk and book signing at Indianapolis Central Library

Indianapolis, Indiana – Indianapolis residents will have the opportunity to hear from one of the nation’s most prominent criminal defense attorneys when James H. Voyles Jr. hosts an author talk at the Central Library later this month. The event, set for Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m., will feature a conversation with attorney James Bell and co-author Mark Bourcier, offering attendees a rare behind-the-scenes look at Voyles’ decades-long legal career.

Known as a “lawyer of the stars,” Voyles has represented a wide array of high-profile clients, from sports stars to business leaders. His roster includes boxer Mike Tyson, NBA player Stephen Jackson, Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee, the late Colts owner Jim Irsay, NASCAR safety harness manufacturer Bill Simpson, and, most recently, former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez. While these celebrity cases have drawn national attention, Voyles’ career also includes advocacy for everyday citizens, highlighting his dedication to the law beyond fame and media coverage.

The author talk will focus on Voyles’ new book, “ALL RISE: My Life and Trials with the Famous, the Infamous, and the Misunderstood.” The book provides a candid look at his experiences navigating the complexities of the American justice system, from headline-grabbing trials to less-publicized legal battles that reveal the challenges faced by ordinary people. Through these stories, readers can gain insight into both the procedural and human sides of criminal defense work, as well as the personal qualities required to succeed in such a demanding field.

“The program offers a chance to hear directly from someone who has worked at the intersection of fame, law, and justice,” said Indianapolis Public Library representatives. “It’s a unique opportunity for anyone interested in true crime, the legal profession, or the history of high-profile cases in Indiana.”

The event will take place in the Clowes Auditorium at Central Library, located at 40 E. Saint Clair Street. Following the conversation, Voyles will participate in a book signing, giving attendees the chance to purchase copies of “ALL RISE” and have them signed by the author. The talk is open to the public, and library officials anticipate that the discussion will draw a diverse audience, including legal professionals, true crime enthusiasts, students, and local history buffs.

Voyles’ collaboration with co-author Mark Bourcier and attorney James Bell promises to provide both engaging storytelling and professional perspective. The discussion will delve into Voyles’ experiences with complex cases, his approach to high-pressure courtroom situations, and the broader implications of his work for the justice system. By exploring both celebrity and everyday cases, Voyles aims to illuminate the challenges of representing clients in a world where public opinion and media coverage can shape the narrative as much as the law itself.

For many attendees, the author talk offers more than just entertainment—it provides an educational perspective on legal strategy, ethics, and the real-world demands of criminal defense. Voyles’ career, marked by high-profile victories and ongoing advocacy for justice, exemplifies the intersection of law, leadership, and perseverance.

Additional details about the event, including updates and registration information, are available on the Indianapolis Public Library website. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early, as seating in Clowes Auditorium may be limited and demand is expected to be high.

With “ALL RISE” and this upcoming author talk, James H. Voyles Jr. continues to share his unique perspective on the law, offering audiences an inside look at the courtroom battles, personal experiences, and professional challenges that have defined a career spent defending both the famous and the misunderstood. For those interested in the legal system or Indiana’s storied criminal cases, this event promises to be a compelling and informative evening.
