Funding now available for Pre-K programs through MCCSC Early Learning Referendum support

Monroe County, Indiana – Families across the Monroe County Community School Corporation will soon have an opportunity to explore early learning options and learn more about new funding support tied to the district’s Early Learning Referendum. MCCSC officials are inviting parents and guardians to attend a Pre-K and Kindergarten Open House scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at all MCCSC elementary schools.

The open house comes just days after Pre-K and Kindergarten enrollment officially opens on Feb. 2, giving families a timely chance to gather information before making enrollment decisions. The event is open to parents and guardians of children who will turn 4 or 5 years old by Aug. 1, 2026, and is designed to help families feel confident about the transition into early education.

During the evening, families will be able to walk through school buildings, visit Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms, and see what a typical day looks like for young learners. Teachers, principals, and school staff will be available to answer questions and talk with parents one-on-one. The event also offers families the chance to meet other parents and students, helping new families begin building connections within their school communities.

In addition to learning about classrooms and curriculum, families will receive information about expanded access to Pre-K education made possible by public support for MCCSC’s 2023 Referendum. As a result of the referendum, every family living within the MCCSC district now qualifies for financial assistance that covers at least half the cost of 4-year-old Pre-K programs. District officials emphasize that this support applies regardless of household income, removing a significant barrier for many families considering early childhood education.

The funding support applies not only to MCCSC-run programs but also to several partner Pre-K providers across the community. Eligible programs include Bloomington Center for Global Children, Bloomington Developmental Learning Center, New Hope Early Learning Center, Penny Lane Child Care, and programs located at the Indiana University Bloomington Campus Children’s Center and Hoosier Courts Nursery School. District leaders say this broad network of providers gives families flexibility while maintaining consistent access to quality early learning.

Educators often point to early childhood education as a critical foundation for long-term academic and social success. By expanding access to Pre-K, MCCSC aims to better prepare students for kindergarten while supporting families during an important stage of child development.

The Feb. 10 open house is intended to make the process approachable and informative rather than overwhelming. Families can move at their own pace, ask specific questions about their child’s needs, and get a firsthand look at the learning environments their children may soon enter.

More details about the open house, enrollment, and MCCSC schools are available at mccsc.edu/openhouse. District officials encourage families to attend, explore their options, and take advantage of the expanded Pre-K funding made possible through community support.
