Bloomington, Indiana – The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) is set to host an event aimed at educating families and caregivers about Indiana’s newly approved high school diploma requirements. The event, titled “Everything You Need to Know About Indiana’s New High School Diploma,” will take place on Thursday, January 23, from 6 to 7:00 p.m. at Jackson Creek Middle School, located at 3980 S. Sare Rd. in Bloomington.
The session will provide key details on the updated diploma rule, which was approved by the Indiana State Board of Education (SBOE) in December 2024. It is open to families from all Indiana schools, ensuring that all students and their supporters have access to crucial information about the changes.

Rebekah Frazer, School Counseling Specialist at the Indiana Department of Education, will lead the discussion, offering insights into the new requirements and answering attendees’ questions. The updated diploma, which will take effect for the class of 2029, impacts current 8th-grade students who will enter high school in the 2025-26 academic year.
The revised diploma structure is designed to provide greater flexibility in core subjects and electives while introducing new readiness seals. These seals will allow students to earn distinctions such as “honors” or “honors plus” based on their individual goals, whether they are focused on employment, college enrollment, or military service. The new system also enables students to adjust their graduation plans if their interests and ambitions shift during high school.

“This event is an excellent opportunity for families to understand the upcoming changes and how they can best support their students,” said an MCCSC representative. “The new diploma structure is meant to give students more options and better align with their future aspirations.”
As part of MCCSC’s Parent University series, this event is designed to keep families informed about important developments in education. Attendees will have the chance to submit questions in advance at www.mccsc.edu/parentu to be addressed during the session. While the event will not be livestreamed, a recording will be made available online for those unable to attend in person. Additional inquiries regarding the event can be directed to [email protected].
