Leadership Bloomington Monroe County now accepting Class of 2026 applications until the September 29 deadline

Bloomington, Indiana – Leadership Bloomington–Monroe County (LBMC) is once again opening its doors to the next generation of community leaders. Applications are now being accepted for the Class of 2026, with the deadline set for Monday, September 29.

For more than four decades, LBMC has been known as a program that cultivates leadership skills while strengthening community connections. Established in 1984, the program—now formally called Leadership Education and Development (LEAD)—runs for seven months and brings together individuals from a wide range of professional backgrounds. The goal is to prepare participants to take on active and meaningful roles in shaping the future of Bloomington and Monroe County.

Organizers say the program has made a lasting impact. Since its founding, more than 900 graduates have completed the experience, many of whom went on to serve in local government, nonprofits, business, and civic organizations. The diversity of the participant pool is considered one of its strengths, allowing people from different sectors and experiences to collaborate and learn from one another.

“Leadership Bloomington–Monroe County (LBMC) builds a stronger community by identifying a diverse cross-section of local, emerging leaders and preparing them for roles in shaping our future,” organizers said.

The curriculum focuses on developing a range of skills relevant to both the workplace and civic life. Classes are held in person, beginning this year on October 29, and include hands-on opportunities to examine local issues, practice leadership strategies, and build a professional network that often lasts long after the program concludes.

Each year, the program attracts professionals who want to become more engaged with community life while expanding their leadership abilities. The time commitment is designed to be manageable for working adults, while the payoff—stronger skills, deeper community connections, and expanded opportunities for service—is often significant.
Applications for the Class of 2026 are open now, and interested participants are encouraged to apply before the September 29 deadline. Those accepted will embark on a journey designed to connect them more deeply to the Bloomington–Monroe County community while equipping them with tools to make a difference.
