Bloomington, Indiana – Bloomington High School South is sending a group of talented DECA students to compete at the international level in Orlando, Florida, later this month, following a successful performance at the state competition. DECA, a business competition club, provides high school students with invaluable experiences in business education, leadership, and networking – offering them opportunities to build skills that will serve them well in their future careers.
On March 4, three Bloomington South students emerged victorious from the state competition, earning a coveted spot in the international competition. These students will now represent their school and community at DECA’s International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando, set to take place at the end of April.
“This is a great opportunity not just for the students, but also for our school and community,” said Jamie Miller, a faculty advisor for the DECA program. The ICDC offers a platform for students to apply their business knowledge in real-world scenarios, all while forming valuable connections with peers and professionals from across the globe. These connections could play a crucial role in shaping their future careers, and the experience itself will undoubtedly be beneficial for the students in the long run.
The journey to Orlando, however, comes at a high cost. Organizing and funding such a trip is no small task, and the DECA team is actively seeking sponsorships to help cover the expenses. “Want to help them go to this competition? Reach out to Jamie Miller at [email protected],” Miller added, encouraging community members and businesses to get involved.
For Bloomington High School South, this competition represents more than just a chance to compete on an international stage—it’s an opportunity for students to grow, develop, and showcase the skills they’ve honed throughout their time in DECA. As they prepare for Orlando, the excitement continues to build, and the entire school is rooting for them to bring home a win that could help shape their futures in the business world.
