Eight remarkable students from Indianapolis Public Schools receive prestigious 2025 Carson Scholar recognition for excellence

Indianapolis, Indiana – Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is celebrating the remarkable achievements of eight outstanding students who have been named Carson Scholars for 2025. Five students have earned new $1,000 college scholarships, while three returning scholars have been recognized once again for maintaining the high academic and humanitarian standards set by the Carson Scholars Fund (CSF).

The Carson Scholars Fund recognizes students in grades 4-11 who demonstrate both academic excellence and a strong commitment to community service. To qualify, students must maintain a minimum 3.75 GPA and actively contribute to their communities through service initiatives. The prestigious award highlights young leaders who excel in their studies while also making a meaningful impact on those around them.

This year’s new Carson Scholars from IPS include Rafael Garrido (George Washington High School), Almaz Kebede (Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School), Diana Lopez Rivera (Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High School), Yaretzi Perez (Northwest Middle School), and Karol Redondo-Ponce (Shortridge High School). These students have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their education and communities, earning them well-deserved recognition.

Additionally, three IPS students have been honored as recognized Carson Scholars for their continued excellence. Marized Eusebio-Perez (George Washington High School) and Alexandria Green (Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School) have each been named two-time scholars, while Jeralyn Perez (Shortridge High School) has achieved an impressive milestone as a five-time Carson Scholar. Their ongoing commitment to academic achievement and service sets them apart as role models for their peers.

The 2025 Carson Scholars will be recognized at the 21st annual Pittsburgh Carson Scholars Awards Ceremony on April 6, 2025, at Acrisure Stadium. This event is part of a nationwide celebration, with six regional banquets honoring a record-breaking 579 new scholars and 931 recognized scholars this year. The growing number of recipients highlights the expanding influence of the Carson Scholars Fund in promoting educational excellence across the country.

Founded in 1994 by retired Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson and his wife, Candy, the Carson Scholars Fund has awarded over 12,000 scholarships to date. The program not only provides financial support for higher education but also encourages young students to strive for excellence both in their studies and in their communities.

IPS takes great pride in the achievements of these students, who exemplify the values of hard work, leadership, and service. Their dedication reflects the strength and potential of the district’s students and the positive impact they continue to make. As these young scholars move forward in their academic and professional journeys, they serve as inspiring examples of what is possible through perseverance and a commitment to bettering the world around them.
