Bloomington, Indiana – The City of Bloomington has introduced the Crash Hub, an innovative online resource designed to enhance traffic safety awareness and support data-driven decision-making. This new tool provides public access to detailed crash data, allowing residents, city planners, and safety advocates to gain insights into traffic incidents and identify areas that need safety improvements.
The Crash Hub features the newly developed Crash Dashboard and Safe Streets for All Priority Corridors and Intersections maps. These tools aim to highlight crash patterns and pinpoint high-risk locations across Monroe County. Covering data from 2019 to 2023, the Crash Hub includes records of vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle accidents, offering a comprehensive view of local traffic incidents.

“The data, spanning 2019 to 2023, includes vehicle, pedestrian, and bike crashes across Monroe County, providing a comprehensive view of traffic incidents in our region,” said Meghan Blair, GIS Manager. “The dashboard and maps could not have been possible without the dedication of Charlie Moore and Max Stier, ITS GIS Specialists, and data cleaning efforts from Katie Gandhi, MPO Transportation Planner. The launch of this hub aligns with the City of Bloomington’s broader Safe Streets for All Initiative, aiming to reduce accidents and enhance mobility through infrastructure improvements and community engagement.”
Developed as a collaborative project between the Planning & Transportation, Engineering, and Information & Technology Services (ITS) Departments, the Crash Hub provides easy access to State of Indiana crash data. It is a significant step in the city’s efforts to prioritize traffic safety and reduce accidents through informed urban planning.

David Hittle, Director of the Planning & Transportation Department, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “With the adoption of the Safe Streets For All plan, the City has committed to making safety the key determinant in deciding how to direct resources to transportation improvements. The Crash Dashboard now makes the data that drives those decisions publicly accessible.”
The Safe Streets for All Action Plan, which the Crash Hub directly supports, aims to implement infrastructure improvements and increase community engagement in traffic safety efforts. Future developments include adding 2024 crash data by the fourth quarter of 2025 and creating new maps focused on bicycle and pedestrian mobility. These enhancements will further support efforts to make Bloomington’s transportation network safer and more efficient.
Residents are encouraged to explore the Crash Hub and use it as a tool to stay informed about traffic safety trends. The city also invites transportation planners, policymakers, and safety advocates to utilize the platform to help make informed decisions that contribute to a safer, more connected community.
