Bloomington, Indiana – In Bloomington this November, audiences will have the chance to experience Arthur Miller’s acclaimed drama The Price in an intimate setting at the Waldron Rose Firebay. The production, directed by Dale McFadden, invites theatergoers to step into a story where family ties, memory, and long-buried choices collide with devastating clarity.
The play centers on Victor Franz, a New York City policeman who returns to the attic of his childhood home in a crumbling Manhattan brownstone. Victor’s task seems straightforward—he has come to sell off the possessions of his late father. But as the day unfolds, what begins as a practical duty transforms into a raw confrontation with the past. His wife stands by as he arranges for an appraiser to examine the furniture, but the real drama arrives with the unexpected reappearance of his estranged brother, Walter.
From that moment, the attic becomes more than a storeroom of old belongings. It becomes a crucible where past sacrifices, resentments, and regrets are laid bare. Arthur Miller’s dialogue cuts sharply, bringing forward the tension of siblings who chose very different paths in life. What lingers beneath the surface—years of silence, unspoken obligations, and the cost of loyalty—surfaces in exchanges that feel both intimate and universal.
Performances are scheduled for November 6, 8, 13, and 15 at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on November 16 at 3:00 p.m. The production also offers audiences a chance to reflect more deeply through two post-show talk backs on Saturday, November 8 and Thursday, November 13. These discussions will be led by Darrell Ann Stone, giving theatergoers the opportunity to engage with the themes Miller weaves into the story.
“The Price reveals the often painful cost of doing what we believe is right,” notes the production. For many, that cost comes not in sudden tragedy, but in the steady accumulation of choices and compromises over a lifetime.
With its mix of powerful performances and Miller’s timeless writing, the show promises an evening of theater that lingers long after the curtain falls. Tickets and more details are available through Jewish Theatre Bloomington at www.jewishtheatrebloomington.com/tickets.
