Indianapolis, Indiana – For anyone who has wondered what a career with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department actually looks like, Join IMPD Week is designed to turn that curiosity into a closer, hands-on look. IMPD says the event series is three weeks away, with multiple opportunities for potential applicants and community members to meet officers, learn about specialty units and see what the hiring process involves.
The week is not built around a single recruiting table or presentation. Instead, IMPD is spreading events across several days and locations, combining fitness, community activities, officer interaction and behind-the-scenes access for people considering law enforcement as a career. The schedule gives participants several different ways to learn, whether they are most interested in patrol work, academy preparation, physical testing or simply talking directly with officers.

Activities begin Oct. 3 with two events. From 1 to 4 p.m., participants can visit Indiana Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy, 647 US-31 N in Greenwood, where they can learn Jiu-Jitsu techniques, speak with officers and ask questions about IMPD careers and hiring.
Also on Oct. 3, the Northwest Community Day & Car Show will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 3919 Lafayette Road. The community event will include food, music, bounce houses, nonprofit partners and a bike giveaway.
On Oct. 5, IMPD will host Shift Zero, an event aimed at interested applicants who want a broader look at the department. Participants will be able to meet officers from different specialty units, ask questions and tour several IMPD facilities. Pre-registration is required, while people who cannot attend in person can follow along on social media.
The focus shifts to academy preparation on Oct. 6 with Pre-Academy Readiness, or PAR, at the IMPD Training Academy, 901 N. Post Road. A specialty unit meet-and-greet is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a workout and question-and-answer session from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The program is intended to help candidates prepare for the physical and mental demands of the Training Academy.

A different view of police work is planned for Oct. 7. During Patrol POV, IMPD News social media will feature a day-in-the-life ride-along with an IMPD patrol officer, giving viewers a chance to follow the experience remotely.
Fitness returns to the schedule Oct. 8 with “FFT: On the Move” at the Indiana University Indianapolis Courtyard, 830 W. Michigan Street. From 3 to 5 p.m., participants can attempt the department’s current functional fitness test. The three fastest finishing times will receive prizes.
Join IMPD Week concludes Oct. 10 with “Ruck with a Recruiter” at Southwestway Park, 8400 Mann Road. The family-friendly walk or ruck will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. and gives participants another chance to spend time with IMPD officers and their families in a less formal setting.
Across the week, IMPD is encouraging prospective applicants to connect directly with recruiters, learn what serving in Indianapolis involves and decide whether they are ready to take the next step. The department says it is seeking dedicated people who want to protect, serve and work alongside the community.
