Bloomington, Indiana – Bloomington swimmers have a place to cool off again as Mills Pool reopened today, June 19, after spring repair work kept the facility closed longer than expected.

The pool, located at 1100 W. 14th St., is now open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., weather permitting. Bloomington Parks and Recreation said the reopening came after crews stabilized a significant leak discovered during preseason preparations, when staff were filling the pool ahead of the summer season.

The repair work was enough to let the pool operate safely through the 2026 season, but city officials said the job is not finished. The department cautioned that deeper issues with the pool’s plumbing and infrastructure remain and will need more attention after the summer.

“We are pleased to be able to welcome swimmers this summer,” said Tim Street, Parks and Recreation Department Director.

“The repairs address the immediate concerns that prevented the pool from opening, but the pool’s plumbing and infrastructure continue to require attention.”

Finding the problem was not simple. Much of the plumbing system sits under the pool deck, so Parks and Recreation brought in a leak detection firm to help locate and isolate the source.

The work completed this spring allowed the facility to reopen, but the department expects a more detailed review this fall. That assessment will help determine the size, cost and timing of long-term repairs, as well as future capital needs for the aging facility.

For families, neighborhood residents and regular swimmers, the reopening brings some relief after weeks of waiting.

“We know the delayed opening has been frustrating for swimmers, families, and neighborhood residents who look forward to using Mills Pool,” Street said. “We appreciate the community’s patience while staff worked to identify the problem and make the repairs needed to safely reopen the facility.”
