Florida – President Donald Trump spent Saturday evening at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, greeting donors who paid $1 million each to attend a Republican fundraiser, even as tensions surged across the Middle East.
The black-tie gathering went ahead as planned despite rapidly unfolding events overseas. Earlier in the day, Iran vowed retaliation following airstrikes that reportedly killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader. As reports of escalating military activity spread, Trump made a brief appearance at the high-dollar event before turning his attention to developments abroad.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed hours before the event that the president would attend. Speaking to reporters on February 28, she said Trump intended to stop by the fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago for the Republican Party, describing the moment as especially significant.
Inside the ornate ballroom of the Palm Beach club, footage shared on Instagram showed Trump arriving in a gold tie and greeting guests. The setting was formal and celebratory. At one point earlier in the evening, he danced to “YMCA” and Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” as attendees chanted “USA! USA!” The mood, at least within the club’s walls, appeared upbeat and unfazed.
Among those sharing images from the event was Florida-based vape executive Shlomi Evgi. He posted photos of himself posing with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff. In one caption, Evgi wrote that he was honored to meet Rubio. Evgi, whose company produces Fume-brand vaping products under the QR Joy label, has previously appeared in social media photos alongside Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

The fundraiser reportedly carried a $1 million price tag per attendee, according to prior reporting by The New York Times. Guests mingled over cocktails beneath chandeliers while global headlines pointed to a widening conflict. Outside the estate’s gilded halls, reports indicated that U.S. forces were preparing coordinated military strikes alongside Israel.
As the evening progressed, Trump stepped away from the ballroom. According to reports, he moved into a temporary situation room set up at the property to monitor unfolding developments. The contrast was stark: a lavish political fundraiser on one side of the estate, and a live security briefing on the other.
Within the following 24 hours, missile activity was reported across at least 10 countries in the region. The surge in hostilities underscored the speed at which the situation was evolving. Iran’s threats of retaliation appeared to materialize in the form of strikes impacting U.S. allies, further escalating tensions.
The timing of the fundraiser drew attention, given the scale of the crisis abroad. Yet the administration’s public messaging suggested that the president’s brief participation in the event did not interfere with his monitoring of national security matters. Leavitt’s earlier statement emphasized the political importance of the fundraiser, while reports later confirmed Trump’s shift into crisis oversight mode.

By the end of the weekend, the dual images of the evening remained vivid: Trump shaking hands in a chandelier-lit ballroom as chants echoed through Mar-a-Lago, and then retreating to oversee military developments tied to a rapidly expanding regional conflict.
