Code IT Academy opens applications for free IT training program starting February for residents across the Indiana Uplands

Bloomington, Indiana – Residents across southern Indiana who are interested in starting a career in technology have a new opportunity this winter. Code/IT Academy is now accepting applications for its next free information technology training program, offering a direct pathway into entry-level tech jobs without requiring prior experience.

The upcoming 10-week training class is scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026, and is open to residents from all 11 counties in the Indiana Uplands region. Designed to be accessible and beginner-friendly, the program aims to introduce participants to the fundamentals of information technology while building skills that employers are actively seeking.

Classes will be held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., making the program manageable for adults balancing work, school, or family responsibilities. Organizers say the flexible schedule is intentional, allowing more people to participate without needing to step away from other commitments.

Code/IT Academy focuses on practical, hands-on learning. Participants will work toward preparing for the CompTIA Tech+ certification, a widely recognized credential that qualifies individuals for entry-level IT roles such as help desk technician, IT support specialist, or junior systems support. No previous background in technology is required, lowering the barrier for those looking to change careers or enter the workforce for the first time.

The program is offered at no cost to participants, and loaner laptops are available for those who need them. In addition to technical training, accepted applicants will receive career coaching and job search assistance, helping them translate newly gained skills into real employment opportunities. Graduates are also encouraged to continue their education in IT, with guidance on next steps and additional training options.

Code/IT Academy is made possible through a partnership between Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington, The Mill, and Regional Opportunity Initiatives. Together, the organizations aim to strengthen the regional workforce by connecting residents with in-demand careers and supporting long-term economic growth in the Indiana Uplands.
