Indianapolis, Indiana – A tragic hit-and-run crash on the near east side of Indianapolis Saturday night has left a woman dead, with authorities now searching for the driver responsible.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were dispatched around 7:20 p.m. to the intersection of East Washington and North Rural Streets following reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female at the intersection of East Washington and North Oxford Streets, suffering from severe injuries consistent with being hit by a car.
Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has not yet been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators say the driver who struck the woman failed to stop and fled the scene immediately after impact. Details about the suspect or the vehicle remain scarce, as authorities have only managed to identify one witness so far.
The witness informed detectives that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the street when she was hit. Following the collision, the driver reportedly continued westbound on Washington Street without stopping or rendering aid.
As of now, IMPD has not released any additional information about potential suspects or a vehicle description. Authorities urge anyone who may have seen the incident or has relevant information to come forward.
