Suspect in deadly southwest side shooting taken into custody roughly an hour after the incident in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana – A man suspected of being involved in a deadly shooting on Indianapolis’ southwest side was taken into custody roughly an hour after the incident, following an intensive search involving specialized police resources.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 8700 block of Blooming Grove Drive in the Camby neighborhood at approximately 12:05 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report that a person had been shot. When officers arrived, they found an individual suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting occurred in a residential area that is typically quiet during midday hours, leaving neighbors shaken as police activity quickly filled the street. Patrol cars, crime scene tape, and investigators remained in the area as officers began piecing together what led up to the fatal encounter.

Roughly an hour after the initial call, IMPD announced through a social media update that a suspect connected to the shooting had been arrested. Police said officers relied on a combination of drones and K9 units to locate and apprehend the individual. Authorities have not released details about where the suspect was found or whether the arrest occurred inside or outside the immediate neighborhood.

IMPD confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. No additional injuries were reported during the search or arrest, and police did not indicate whether a weapon had been recovered.

As detectives continue to investigate, IMPD warned residents to expect a continued police presence in the area for several hours following the shooting. Officers were seen canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with potential witnesses, and documenting the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police are asking for the public’s help as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators believe that additional information from residents, nearby businesses, or passing motorists could be critical to understanding what happened in the moments leading up to the fatal gunfire.

“Anyone with any information or who may have video footage is asked to come forward and speak with detectives,” IMPD stated.

Authorities are particularly interested in surveillance video, doorbell camera footage, or cellphone recordings that may show activity in the area around the time of the shooting. Even small details, police say, could help confirm timelines or provide insight into the events that unfolded.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police had not released the identity of the victim or the suspect, pending notification of family members and further investigation. Charges connected to the case have also not yet been announced.

The investigation remains active, and police say additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
