‘Sesame Street’s’ Cookie Monster takes on role of grand marshal at Brickyard 400 this year

Indianapolis, Indiana – The iconic Cookie Monster from “Sesame Street” is set to take a central role at the Brickyard 400, one of NASCAR’s most prestigious events, when he serves as the grand marshal on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). Known for his insatiable love for cookies and his beloved presence on the long-running children’s show, Cookie Monster will step into the spotlight and fulfill the ceremonial duties, including giving the traditional command for drivers to report to their cars before the race begins.

The event will mark a special moment for the fans in attendance, as Cookie Monster takes center stage during one of the biggest moments in motorsports. As grand marshal, he will not only give the command but also become part of the excitement as drivers prepare to take on the legendary 2.5-mile oval track at IMS.

The Brickyard 400 isn’t just another race—it’s an iconic event, and this year, it will be made even more special with Cookie Monster’s appearance. “Bring the whole family out for a cookie break as we welcome ‘Sesame Street’s’ Cookie Monster to IMS for the Brickyard 400 presented by PPG on July 27,” said J. Douglas Boles, President of INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He continued, “Following Cookie Monster’s command as grand marshal, everyone can enjoy exciting on-track action as the stars of NASCAR take on the iconic 2.5-mile oval. And remember, children under 15 are admitted free with the purchase of an adult Flex or General Admission ticket.”

This appearance is part of a broader initiative this summer called the “Sesame Street Road Trip Across America,” where Cookie Monster and other beloved characters from the show travel the country, bringing the message that “Sesame Street” is for everyone, no matter who they are or where they live. This message, rooted in the show’s debut in 1969, continues to resonate with audiences of all ages. The trip, which kicks off at the Brickyard 400, is a celebration of the diverse communities that “Sesame Street” has reached and the impact it has had in shaping children’s lives across the nation.

One of the most exciting parts of the event is the connection between Cookie Monster and NASCAR champion Bubba Wallace. Wallace, who has become an advocate for diversity and inclusion within the sport, recorded a special video message to mark Cookie Monster’s role as grand marshal. The two will reunite at the Brickyard 400, showcasing how “Sesame Street” continues to bridge gaps across different communities and industries. Wallace’s involvement further highlights how the message of kindness and inclusion from “Sesame Street” is spreading beyond the world of children’s television and into the world of professional sports.

The multi-city road trip will not only bring families together at the Brickyard 400, but it will also be supported by a dynamic social media campaign. This campaign will highlight the faces and places where “Sesame Street” fans live and interact, creating a nationwide community that can celebrate the power of learning, kindness, and fun. Fans will be able to follow along online, seeing the different stops Cookie Monster and his friends make as they share their positive messages with communities all over America.
