Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indiana State Fair Commission has named Ray Allison as its new executive director, following the upcoming retirement of longtime leader Cindy Hoye. Hoye, who has devoted nearly four decades to the organization, will step down on March 31, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of growth and community engagement at the fairgrounds. Allison is set to officially assume the role immediately following her retirement.
Allison brings nearly two decades of experience with the Indiana State Fairgrounds, having joined the staff full-time in 2007 as public safety manager. Since then, he has held multiple leadership positions, including director of operations and vice president of administration. Most recently, he served as chief operating officer, a role in which he oversaw the Indiana State Fair Foundation, strategic planning initiatives, and various campus development projects. His deep familiarity with the inner workings of the fairgrounds and its operations positions him to continue advancing the Fair’s mission while preserving its rich traditions.
In his announcement, Allison said, “I have spent most of my adult life serving this organization, and I am humbled to be selected as its next caretaker. I look forward to working with our incredible team to build upon our rich heritage and continue making memories and building traditions for our next 175 years.” His remarks highlighted both his respect for the organization’s history and his focus on future growth, signaling a commitment to blending tradition with innovation.
Governor Mike Braun praised the selection, noting Allison’s experience and dedication to the Fair. “Allison’s selection reflects both his exceptional leadership and his deep, longstanding commitment to the Indiana State Fair. I am confident his experience, passion, and vision will continue to move the Fair and Fairgrounds forward,” Braun said. The governor’s statement underscored the confidence in Allison’s ability to lead one of Indiana’s most cherished annual events into a new era.
Allison’s appointment comes at a time of continued evolution for the Indiana State Fair. Over the years, the fair has expanded its programming, enhanced infrastructure, and increased community outreach. As executive director, Allison will be responsible for guiding operations, managing large-scale events, and ensuring that the Fairgrounds remain a vibrant and accessible destination for visitors statewide. His extensive background in campus development and strategic planning is expected to play a key role in shaping the Fair’s long-term direction.
Cindy Hoye’s retirement marks the end of an era. Having dedicated nearly 40 years to the Indiana State Fair, she has overseen countless improvements and helped solidify the Fair’s place as a central cultural and entertainment event for the state. Allison inherits an organization with a strong foundation, and his leadership will be tested by the challenge of maintaining the Fair’s traditions while embracing modern opportunities and innovations.
With a proven track record in both operations and administration, Allison steps into his new role with a clear vision for the future. He is expected to build on the Fair’s legacy while also focusing on growth, safety, and enhancing the experience for all visitors. As the Fair approaches its next milestone years, Allison’s leadership will be central to ensuring that the Indiana State Fair continues to serve as a source of community pride, celebration, and lasting memories for generations to come.
