One person is in critical condition following a shooting incident on the west side of Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Indiana – A shooting on the west side of Indianapolis left one person in critical condition Thursday night, according to authorities. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police responded to the scene around 8:26 p.m. on the 2900 block of Campanile Drive, where they found a victim suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. Police say that while the injuries are serious, the individual is expected to recover. “The victim is in critical condition but is expected to make a recovery,” IMPD officials confirmed.

Investigators said the incident stemmed from family violence at a nearby location, identified as The Steeples near West Washington Street. Police believe the altercation escalated to the point of gunfire, though details about the events leading up to the shooting remain limited. Officers identified two shooters at the scene, though it is unclear if there was an exchange of fire between them.

A person of interest was apprehended later near 86th Street and is currently in police custody. Authorities have not disclosed whether additional suspects are being sought or if charges have been formally filed at this time.

The incident caused a heightened police presence in the surrounding area, with officers and investigators combing the scene for evidence. Residents in the neighborhood reported seeing multiple squad cars and officers speaking with witnesses shortly after the shooting occurred.

IMPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the shooting unfolded and whether other individuals were involved. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
