Marion High School administrators respond to a security incident involving students and a BB gun on September 17

Marion, Indiana – On the afternoon of September 17, 2025, Marion High School administrators responded quickly after becoming aware of a video reportedly showing students in possession of a firearm. School staff and administrators acted immediately, coordinating closely with local law enforcement to ensure the situation was handled safely. The students involved were removed from the building without incident, and the weapon in question was determined to be a BB gun.

Marion High School officials emphasized that the safety of students and staff is their highest priority. “Building administrators are conducting an ongoing investigation. The safety of our staff and students is top priority,” the statement read. While the incident prompted a swift response, regular school dismissal procedures continued as scheduled, and no disruption occurred to the broader student body.

Marion Community Schools reiterated that weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on campus. Any student found to be in possession of such an item is subject to discipline up to and including expulsion, in accordance with school rules,” the statement said.

The district also highlighted its commitment to taking all reports of threats seriously. Any potential threat is investigated thoroughly to ensure a safe learning environment for all students. “Marion Community Schools takes all reports of threats seriously. Safety of our students is top priority. All reports of threats are investigated. We are committed to a safe and healthy learning environment,” the statement noted.

Officials urged students, staff, and community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior immediately. The school encourages anyone who notices something unusual at a school or school event to contact the nearest Marion Community Schools employee. Additionally, anyone with information about threats to student or campus safety is encouraged to reach out to school or district administrators at any time.
