Lincoln Amphitheatre expansion wins prestigious construction award for enhancing visitor experience and park amenities

Lincoln City, Indiana – The Lincoln Amphitheatre at Lincoln State Park is hitting new high notes, both on stage and off. Last month, Seufert Construction was honored with the Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana and Kentucky’s Excellence in Construction Award of Merit for its work on the amphitheatre’s expansion, a project that has significantly improved the visitor experience at the historic venue.

Seufert Construction publicly recognized the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) as the project owner during a ceremony held at the facility yesterday. The acknowledgment celebrated the collaboration that brought the ambitious project to life, transforming the amphitheatre into a more versatile and accessible venue.

The expansion added two 250-seat areas and two patios, allowing the amphitheatre to sell 200 additional tickets per event, increasing overall capacity from 1,500 to 2,200 attendees. The project also included a new restroom building, the conversion of the old gift shop/museum building into a dedicated alcohol sales building, and a remodel of the concessions area. Beyond structural upgrades, new siding and roofs were installed across the complex, and a patio with a picnic area featuring overhead lighting was added, enhancing both comfort and aesthetics.

“This expansion project greatly improved the amphitheatre, adding yet another reason to visit our scenic, historic park, which also offers 10 miles of hiking trails; rolling forested hills, and two lakes,” said Joe Compton, the park’s property manager.

The upgrades are already making an impact. Marc Steczyk, the amphitheatre’s director, noted in his recommendation letter to ABC that “the expansion project has significantly enhanced the Lincoln Amphitheatre’s ability to provide an outstanding experience for our patrons.” Even with the increased capacity, six of the venue’s ten music nights sold out during the past season, contributing to a more than 24% increase in total revenue compared to the prior year.

The project demonstrates a thoughtful balance between expanding seating and maintaining the charm and historic character of Lincoln State Park. Visitors now enjoy improved amenities without sacrificing the scenic views or the intimate concert experience that has long defined the venue.

In addition to the performance enhancements, the expansion strengthens the amphitheatre’s role as a community hub. The new patios and picnic areas provide spaces for visitors to gather before and after events, and the upgraded facilities make it easier to host a wider variety of concerts and cultural events throughout the year.

For Seufert Construction, the recognition reflects a commitment to quality craftsmanship and collaboration with public agencies. The project not only met functional goals but also delivered a visually appealing and durable design that will serve the amphitheatre and park visitors for decades.

The Lincoln Amphitheatre, nestled within the scenic Lincoln State Park, continues to be a cornerstone of the local cultural landscape. Visitors can enjoy not only its concerts and events but also the surrounding natural beauty, including rolling hills, lakes, and trails.

This award-winning expansion underscores how careful planning, community-focused design, and high-quality construction can elevate both a venue and the overall visitor experience, ensuring Lincoln Amphitheatre remains a treasured destination for generations to come.
