Ivy Tech Bloomington prepares to celebrate the accomplishments of hundreds of graduates during Friday evening Commencement ceremony

Bloomington, Indiana – This Friday evening, May 2, Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington will proudly honor its graduating Class of 2025 during its annual Commencement Ceremony. The celebration is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Indiana University Auditorium, marking a significant milestone in the lives of more than a thousand students who have worked hard to earn their degrees and certificates.

With a total of approximately 1,431 graduates, the college is awarding 1,850 associate degrees and certificates this year. For many students, this moment not only marks the end of one chapter but the beginning of another—one filled with new opportunities, career pathways, and further education.

“Over 80% of Ivy Tech graduates choose to stay in our communities, filling in-demand roles that make a difference,” said Chancellor Erik Coyne. “They’re your HVAC technicians, nurses, teachers, and so much more—all helping to make the Bloomington region a great place to live and work. We are proud to call them alumni and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments.”

A Spotlight on Student Achievement

This year’s Commencement will feature a student speaker who embodies the spirit of determination and possibility. Britney Khan, co-president of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and an informatics graduate, will take the stage to share her journey. Graduating magna cum laude and named the outstanding student in her program, Khan is a first-generation college student and a recent immigrant to the United States. She will use her speech to reflect on the opportunities Ivy Tech has opened for her.

“Ivy Tech represents more than a college—it represents possibility,” said Khan. “It gave me a beginning where I could not only earn credits but ultimately set myself up for long-term success.”

Khan plans to transfer this fall to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree in international studies. Her long-term goal is to work in humanitarian service, with aspirations of joining the United Nations.

Transfer Success and Early College Momentum

One of the highlights of Ivy Tech Bloomington’s Commencement data is the number of graduates earning transfer credentials. The campus is awarding 547 transfer degrees and certificates this year, representing about 30% of all credentials conferred. Ivy Tech maintains over 100 transfer partnerships with both in-state and out-of-state institutions, including several guaranteed admission programs with Indiana University. Five of those pathways—Biology, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Informatics, and Psychology—are based at the Bloomington campus.

In addition, Early College programming has enabled 453 high school students to earn 490 college-level credentials before even finishing high school. Eleven of those students, from Bloomfield and Mitchell high schools, are on track to receive full associate degrees by graduation. These students hail from more than 20 local high schools and career centers, showing the broad regional reach of Ivy Tech’s impact.

Health Programs and Workforce Credentials

The college’s strong focus on workforce readiness continues with the conferral of 107 Associate of Science in Nursing degrees and 56 Practical Nursing certificates—credentials that directly address the state’s healthcare workforce needs.

The Achieve Your Degree™ (AYD) program will also see 28 graduates earning 36 degrees and certificates. This initiative offers employer-paid tuition assistance, removing upfront cost barriers for working students. Ivy Tech Bloomington currently partners with 20 local employers in the program.

Another accelerated pathway, the Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP), enables students aged 21 and under to complete their associate degree in under 12 months. This year, 21 ASAP graduates will receive 38 credentials through this intensive and fast-paced model.

A Diverse and Global Community

Eight military veterans are among this year’s graduates, as well as five international students who represent the countries of Egypt, India, Indonesia, and Kenya. Their stories reflect the global and inclusive environment Ivy Tech continues to foster on its Bloomington campus.

Looking Ahead

The Commencement Ceremony is not only a celebration of personal achievement but also a reminder of Ivy Tech’s vital role in shaping Indiana’s workforce and supporting economic growth across the region. With more than 40 career-focused and four-year transfer programs, Ivy Tech Bloomington continues to offer students of all backgrounds a clear, affordable, and accessible path forward.
