Indy Chamber announces the appointment of longtime civic leader Greg Stowers as Vice President of Local Government Affairs to guide regional policy efforts

Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indy Chamber has announced the appointment of Greg Stowers as its new Vice President of Local Government Affairs, a move that signals a renewed focus on policy leadership, collaboration, and long-term economic strategy across the Indianapolis region.

The announcement was made in Indianapolis, where Chamber officials highlighted Stowers’ extensive background in public service and civic engagement. He brings more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of government, nonprofits, and the private sector, a combination the Chamber views as critical to advancing its advocacy and public affairs mission.

Stowers joins the Indy Chamber after serving with the Indianapolis City-County Council, where he most recently held the roles of Chief Administrative Officer and Policy Director. In those positions, he played a key role in shaping local policy initiatives and coordinating across departments and stakeholders. As a lifelong Indianapolis resident, Stowers has remained closely connected to the city’s evolving challenges and opportunities, while also building a national network focused on innovation, advocacy, and community development.

“Greg brings deep experience, trusted relationships and a solutions-driven leadership style that will significantly strengthen the Chamber’s advocacy on behalf of the Indy region,” said Taylor Hughes, Chief of Staff at the Indy Chamber. “His ability to translate policy into meaningful, community-centered outcomes makes him an invaluable addition to our team.”

Throughout his career, Stowers has demonstrated a consistent commitment to civic leadership and community impact. He currently serves on the boards of several prominent organizations, including Indy Hub, the Mitch Daniels Leadership Foundation, Flanner House, and Indianapolis Indians Charities. His board service reflects a broad interest in leadership development, community revitalization, and youth engagement.

In addition to his board work, Stowers has held leadership roles with Ice Miller LLP, Kiwanis International, and Leadership Indianapolis. These experiences have allowed him to work across sectors, helping align business interests with community priorities while developing future leaders in the region.

Stowers’ professional achievements have also earned him multiple recognitions. He is a member of the Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series Class XLVIII and the 1828 Leadership Project Class VI. In 2023, he was named to the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 list, recognizing young leaders making a significant impact in the region. The year prior, he was selected for the Congressional Black Caucus Institute’s Political Leadership Development Program, further expanding his exposure to national policy discussions.

His community involvement extends beyond boardrooms and policy tables. Stowers has led Hashtag Lunchbag Indianapolis, a volunteer-driven initiative that focuses on education around homelessness and food insecurity. Under his leadership, the program has provided more than 40,000 meals to individuals in need, blending direct service with public awareness.

A graduate of Indiana State University, Stowers earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He has described himself as a collaborative civic leader who works best where policy, strategy, and community needs overlap.

In his new role with the Indy Chamber, Stowers will oversee the organization’s local government affairs strategy. His work will focus on advancing policy priorities tied to business competitiveness, inclusive economic growth, and long-term regional prosperity. Chamber leaders say his experience and approach position him to help navigate complex policy environments while keeping community outcomes at the forefront.

With this appointment, the Indy Chamber aims to strengthen its voice in local government and continue shaping a more competitive and inclusive future for the Indianapolis region.
