Indiana Chamber releases new 20th edition Employment Law Handbook to help employers navigate recent federal and state legal changes

Indianapolis, Indiana – Employers in Indiana now have a valuable new resource to help navigate the complex and ever-changing landscape of employment law with the release of the 20th edition of the Indiana Chamber’s Employment Law Handbook. Authored by attorneys from Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, the handbook is a comprehensive guide to both federal and Indiana employment laws, offering practical guidance for businesses of all sizes. With recent shifts in policy, regulatory updates, and court decisions, the handbook aims to provide clarity and direction for employers seeking to remain compliant.

The past year has seen a flurry of changes that have significantly impacted workplace practices. Notable among these are President Trump’s executive orders addressing gender-based discrimination, affirmative action, and diversity, equity, and inclusion mandates. Employers have been closely watching these developments, as they affect hiring, employee management, and reporting requirements. The handbook addresses these areas in detail, helping businesses understand what is legally required and what is recommended for best practices.

“Our new Employment Law Handbook provides employers necessary direction and guidance on laws and is a critical resource to help keep up with this ever-changing landscape,” said Jennifer George, vice president of business education and events. “This has long been our most popular book, and we’re pleased to continue its publication to help keep Indiana employers in compliance.”

Beyond federal executive orders, the handbook also addresses several other recent changes that businesses need to know. These include updates to the federal tax code for tipped employees, adjustments to the tax treatment of overtime, and new regulations concerning the employment of 16- and 17-year-olds under both federal and Indiana law. Employers will also find guidance on federal affirmative action requirements for contractors, changes in liability standards in employment matters, and insights from the U.S. Supreme Court on religious accommodations in the workplace. Each section has been carefully written to make complex legal language more accessible for everyday business operations.

The Indiana Chamber emphasizes that the handbook is designed to be user-friendly. It not only explains the laws but also provides practical examples, checklists, and recommendations for how businesses can ensure compliance. For many Indiana employers, the handbook has become a trusted reference, consulted regularly when updating policies, training staff, or addressing workplace disputes.
