City of Bloomington invites residents and visitors to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month at the annual La Fiesta del Otoño event

Bloomington, Indiana – Bloomington residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Latiné culture, community, and heritage at the City’s annual La Fiesta del Otoño on Saturday, September 20. The family-friendly event, scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. at the Switchyard Park Pavilion, 1601 S. Rogers St., promises an afternoon of music, dance, food, and interactive activities. This year’s theme, “Finding Strength in Community / Nuestra Fuerza está en la Comunidad,” emphasizes the unity and resilience of the local Hispanic and Latiné communities.

Hosted by the City of Bloomington’s Community and Family Resources Department Latino Outreach staff and the Commission on Hispanic and Latiné Affairs, La Fiesta del Otoño coincides with National Hispanic Heritage Month. The celebration honors the contributions and cultural richness of Bloomington’s Latiné population while welcoming the entire community to participate in a vibrant, shared experience.

“Our city is at its best when every resident feels seen, valued, and included,” said Shatoyia Moss, Community and Family Resources Director. “La Fiesta del Otoño is a joyful way to celebrate Latiné culture while strengthening the bonds that unite us as one Bloomington community.”

Music, Dance, and Performances

Attendees can look forward to a lineup of live performances that showcase a variety of Latiné artistic traditions. Mariachi Internacional de Bloomington, IU Ballet Folklórico, Sofía Crespo, Vick Luna Quartet, and David Davila will take the stage throughout the afternoon, offering a mix of traditional and contemporary sounds. From the rhythmic movements of folkloric dance to the melodic harmonies of mariachi, the performances promise to captivate audiences of all ages.

Community Connections and Education

La Fiesta del Otoño is not just about entertainment. More than 50 community partners will set up interactive booths featuring arts and crafts, bilingual resources, and information on programs and services. Visitors can explore hands-on activities such as the Veggie Meter, an initiative promoting nutrition and wellness, and take part in health screenings offered in partnership with the Indiana University School of Nursing and the Monroe County Public Health Clinic.

Attendees can enjoy flavors from across Latin America while connecting with neighbors, friends, and fellow festival-goers.
