Bloomington, Indiana – An upcoming free sustainability workshop will provide Bloomington residents looking to reduce waste, save money, and become more environmentally responsible the opportunity to pick up useful skills. Sponsored by the City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) in cooperation with the Waste Reduction District of Monroe County (WRD), the event seeks to equip participants with practical strategies to cut waste, conserve water, and safely handle home hazardous materials—all while lowering monthly utility costs.

The program is scheduled for March 1, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Education Room of the Administration Building at the S Walnut Recycling Center (3400 S Walnut St, Bloomington, IN). Leading the event will be local professionals from CBU and WRD who will provide hands-on expertise about sustainable methods that actually improve the homes and surroundings for the residents.

Why attend? Practical solutions for everyday living!

Bloomington officials understand that little, deliberate everyday actions can have major positive effects on the surroundings. This course will thus offer locals basic, practical advice on how to:

✔ Reduce water usage – Learn how to lower water bills through conservation techniques, including smart landscaping and household adjustments.

✔ Manage stormwater runoff – Understand the importance of storm drain care and how small efforts can protect local waterways.

✔ Cut down on household waste – Find out how to minimize landfill contributions through better recycling and composting practices.

✔ Handle hazardous waste responsibly – Get clear guidance on disposing of items like batteries, paints, and chemicals in an environmentally safe way.

By the end of the session, participants will have a better grasp of cost-saving conservation methods while ensuring their household waste management aligns with best sustainability practices.

Limited spots – Reserve your seat today!

As municipalities throughout the nation give sustainability top importance, seminars like these allow Bloomington residents to take responsibility of their environmental impact without feeling overwhelmed. The great thing is that although space is limited, attendance is totally free!
