Bloomington seeks artists for bold makeover of community events trailer

Bloomington, Indiana – The City of Bloomington is calling on artists to lend their creativity to an exciting new project that will turn an ordinary cargo trailer into a traveling work of art. The 6’x12’ trailer, a new community resource available for free to local groups and city departments, will soon be a vibrant symbol of Bloomington’s unique artistic spirit.

Designed to enhance block parties, pop-up events, and meetings across the city, the trailer will not only serve a practical purpose but also celebrate Bloomington’s cultural identity. Officials are looking for a design that embodies the energy, diversity, and warmth of the community, making it an eye-catching feature wherever it appears.

“We are excited that this new community resource will also be an opportunity to showcase the work of Bloomington’s talented local artists,” says Angela Van Rooy, Program Manager in Housing and Neighborhood Development. “The trailer, which we hope to launch late this spring, will contain fun both inside and out, with an inviting, creative exterior design and all the equipment and supplies needed to throw a great community event!”

The city is inviting professional artists and artist teams aged 18 and older to submit their design proposals for a chance to be featured on the trailer. The selected artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium, while the city will handle the printing and application of the design.

As the trailer makes its way through Bloomington’s neighborhoods, it will serve as a rolling testament to the city’s dedication to creativity and community engagement. The project isn’t just about decoration—it’s about transforming a functional space into a visual experience that fosters connection and joy.

Interested artists must submit their proposals online by 11:59 PM EST on Friday, March 28. For full details on how to apply, visit the official city website. This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on Bloomington’s streets and events, turning a simple utility trailer into a powerful artistic statement.
