Bloomington, Indiana – A $10 donation could soon mean $20 worth of help for an injured or sick animal in Bloomington. For three weeks in September, every contribution to the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter’s medical fund will go twice as far.
The shelter’s “Double the Love” campaign runs from Tuesday, Sept. 1 through Monday, Sept. 21, with donations matched dollar for dollar up to $20,000. If the full match is reached, the effort could generate $40,000 for emergency surgeries, medical treatments and other essential veterinary care.
“Our community has a remarkable chance to directly improve the lives of animals,” said Virgil Sauder, Director of the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter. “As our shelter faces the ever-present need for sheltering animals in medical crisis, our resources are stretched thin, this fundraiser is more important than ever.”

Residents can donate online, contribute in person at the shelter at 3410 S. Walnut St., or mail a check to the City of Bloomington Animal Shelter, Attn: Fundraiser Donation, 3410 S. Walnut St., Bloomington, IN 47401.
The campaign will also move beyond the shelter with several community events.
The first Adopt & Give Back event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the shelter. Instead of paying a standard adoption fee, participants can donate to the medical fund, helping support animals needing care while taking home a new companion.
The following day, shelter representatives will be at Food Truck Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Switchyard Park, 1601 S. Rogers St., with adoptable pets and information about the fundraiser.
More events follow on Sept. 11 at Upland Brewing Co., 350 W. 11th St., where adoptable animals will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 13, Cardinal Spirits at 922 S. Morton St. will host a Bingo Brunch from noon to 2 p.m., led by shelter Outreach and Behavior Coordinator Emily Herr.
A second Adopt & Give Back event is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17.
The fundraiser closes Sept. 21, giving residents three weeks to turn each donated dollar into twice the support for animals needing medical care. More information is available through the Bloomington Animal Shelter website.
