Bloomington, Indiana – A pair of future streets at Bloomington’s Hopewell South redevelopment could soon carry names chosen with direct input from the people who live in the city.
After receiving more than 130 suggestions in less than a week, Bloomington has opened public voting on five finalists for two new lanes planned at the former Bloomington Hospital site. Residents can cast their votes online through Sunday, Sept. 20.
The naming process is tied to Hopewell South, the first phase of the City-led redevelopment of the former hospital property. As site preparation and infrastructure work continue, the city is now asking residents to help decide what two of the new lanes will be called.
The five names still under consideration are W. Fellowship Lane, W. Heartwell Lane, W. Perseverance Lane, W. Possibility Lane and W. Welcome Lane.
Those options were selected from a much larger pool submitted by the public between Sept. 10 and Sept. 15. More than 130 proposed names came in during that period, giving city staff a wide range of ideas to review.
Staff then checked the submissions for eligibility and narrowed the list to the five finalists now appearing on the ballot.
Residents who want to participate can use the city’s online voting form to select their preferred names. Voting remains open through Sunday.
The results will help determine which two names are ultimately assigned to the new Hopewell South lanes.
The vote comes as physical work at the redevelopment site continues. Hopewell South is moving toward its next stage, with preparation and infrastructure improvements underway as the former hospital property is reshaped for future development.
For residents, the current vote offers a small but lasting role in that transformation. The two winning names will become part of the street network taking shape on a site that is entering a new chapter in Bloomington.
