Indianapolis, Indiana – As students across Indianapolis begin their Spring Break, law enforcement agencies are stepping up efforts to keep neighborhoods safe and guide young people toward better paths.
This week, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department joined forces with Marion County Probation to carry out Operation Future Impact, a coordinated initiative focused on reducing juvenile-related gun violence during a time when many teens have more free time and fewer daily routines.
The operation centered on proactive outreach and enforcement. More than 50 detectives and officers from IMPD’s Operations and Investigations Divisions worked alongside probation officers to conduct home compliance checks for juveniles currently under court-ordered supervision for serious offenses.
These visits took place across all IMPD districts, creating a citywide effort designed to ensure that young individuals under probation are following the conditions set by the courts.
During the coordinated operation, officers reported several significant findings. Authorities made four juvenile arrests and removed 14 firearms from the community. Investigators also seized illegal drugs discovered during the visits, including 15 grams of crack cocaine, 271 grams of fentanyl, and 400 grams of cocaine.
The seizures highlight the ongoing risks posed by illegal weapons and narcotics, particularly when young people become involved in criminal activity.
Officials say the effort goes beyond enforcement alone. Deputy Chief of Investigations Kendale Adams emphasized that the program reflects a broader approach focused on prevention and long-term community well-being.
According to Adams, the goal is not only to recover illegal firearms but also to intervene early and create opportunities for young people to make better choices.
“Operation Future Impact reflects our commitment to early intervention and community safety,” said Deputy Chief of Investigations Kendale Adams.
“By working directly with probation and engaging families in their homes, we aim not only to remove illegally possessed firearms, but also to connect young people with the support they need to change their trajectory. Our focus is prevention, accountability, and opportunity,” Adams added.
These home visits also provide an opportunity for law enforcement and probation staff to connect families with support services and resources that may help youth move away from violence. Officials believe that combining accountability with guidance can help change the trajectory of young lives while strengthening trust between communities and public safety agencies.

The timing of the operation during Spring Break is intentional. School holidays can sometimes bring an increase in unsupervised time for teens, and authorities say proactive engagement during this period helps reduce opportunities for violence or criminal activity.
IMPD leaders say Operation Future Impact represents a broader commitment to safeguarding neighborhoods while investing in the future of Indianapolis youth.
By pairing enforcement with prevention, the department hopes to reduce violence, support young people facing difficult circumstances, and reinforce the safety of communities across the city.
