Monroe County Capital Improvement Board shares January 2026 update on Bloomington convention center expansion

Monroe County, Indiana – The Monroe County Capital Improvement Board has released its January 2026 update on the Bloomington Convention Center expansion, offering the community a clear look at where the project stands as work continues toward a planned opening in January 2027. Board officials say the update reflects steady progress and an ongoing commitment to transparency as construction moves forward.

The expansion project is being carried out in close coordination with the City of Bloomington and a range of community partners. According to the board, regular communication has remained a priority throughout the construction process, ensuring that residents, businesses, and stakeholders remain informed as milestones are reached.

In its latest update, the Capital Improvement Board highlighted recent construction activity and noted that detailed highlights are available in an attached document shared with partners and the public. While specific technical details were not outlined in the announcement itself, officials emphasized that work remains on track and aligned with the overall project schedule.

The expanded convention center is expected to play a key role in Bloomington’s economic and community development. Once completed, it is anticipated to support larger events, attract new visitors, and strengthen the city’s ability to host conferences, conventions, and local gatherings. Board members have previously said the project is designed to meet both current needs and long-term growth.

To help maintain open lines of communication, the board encouraged the public to share the project update with others who may be interested or impacted by construction. Officials say this approach helps reduce confusion and ensures that accurate information circulates within the community.

For questions or concerns specifically related to the construction site, the board directed residents to contact the project’s construction manager. Weddle Bros. Building Group, LLC is overseeing construction, and Construction Manager Andrew Scere can be reached at 812-214-2900. Officials said this direct point of contact allows for timely responses to site-related inquiries.

In addition to periodic updates, the Monroe County Capital Improvement Board continues to maintain an up-to-date project website. The site, MonroeCIB.com, provides ongoing information about the convention center expansion and allows the public to track progress as the project advances toward completion.

As January 2027 approaches, board officials say they will continue providing updates and working closely with local partners to ensure the expanded Bloomington Convention Center opens as planned and delivers lasting benefits to the community.
