Indianapolis Public Schools celebrate College Go Week with events and resources to help students explore and plan for their future

Indianapolis, Indiana – Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is gearing up for College Go! Week, an annual statewide initiative designed to guide students toward postsecondary education and career opportunities. From September 22 through 26, high schools across the district—including Arsenal Technical, George Washington, Shortridge, Crispus Attucks, and IMPACT Academy—will host a series of events aimed at making the college application process accessible, engaging, and fun.

College Go! Week, led by Learn More Indiana and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, encourages students to explore educational opportunities beyond high school. During the week, colleges and universities throughout Indiana waive application fees, removing one of the financial barriers that can make higher education feel out of reach for many students. For IPS students, the celebration will go beyond paperwork, with themed events, workshops, and career exploration activities designed to spark curiosity and build confidence.

At the heart of the district’s efforts are the Future Centers, dedicated spaces within each high school where students can meet with counselors, explore college and career pathways, and receive personalized guidance. Through these centers, students can learn about scholarships, dual credit programs, Advanced Placement courses, and career certifications. These resources provide hands-on support that empowers students to navigate the often-complex postsecondary planning process.

“College Go! Week is about more than just applying—it’s about helping students see what’s possible for their future,” said Austin Dodd, IPS director of high school academies and pathways. “When I was a college student, the process felt overwhelming. That’s why I’m proud of the work our department does to support students, whether they’re pursuing Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, dual credit, or direct pathways to careers. We want every student to know they have options, and that we’re here to guide them.”

Throughout the week, IPS schools will feature a variety of engaging activities designed to make the college process exciting. Students can participate in college application parties, mascot scavenger hunts, and college spirit days that celebrate the achievements and ambitions of each individual. These events are intended to build enthusiasm while emphasizing the real-world importance of planning for the future.

In addition to fun activities, counselors and staff in the Future Centers will be available to walk students through the application process step by step, answer questions about admissions, and guide them toward scholarship opportunities. By providing this level of support, the district hopes to increase the number of students who complete applications, explore educational options, and feel confident in their postsecondary choices.

Dodd emphasized that College Go! Week aligns with IPS’s broader College and Career Readiness strategy, which seeks to prepare students for success in both higher education and the workforce. “By removing barriers and giving students hands-on support, College Go! Week ensures more IPS graduates are prepared to pursue their dreams—whether that means a four-year university, a two-year degree, or a career credential,” he said.

For many IPS students, the week is an important stepping stone toward realizing their goals. By combining practical guidance, engaging activities, and access to fee-free applications, the initiative helps students visualize a clear path from high school to college and careers. As schools across the district kick off the events, counselors and educators are optimistic that College Go! Week will inspire students to take the next step toward their future.

With this dedicated week of support and celebration, IPS is helping students see that higher education and career opportunities are not just a distant dream—they are attainable with planning, guidance, and determination.
